Rockingham gets the same coastal punishment as Mandurah — salt air eating your antenna hardware from the moment it goes up. But Rocko's got a couple of extra wrinkles that make antenna work here its own beast. Garden Island and the naval base create occasional RF interference that can cause weird reception glitches in Shoalwater and Safety Bay. It's not constant, but when it happens, people think their antenna's broken.

Baldivis is probably my busiest suburb right now. It's one of the fastest-growing areas in Perth, which means thousands of new homes going up with builder-grade antennas. These developers use the cheapest antenna and mounting gear possible — it passes the building inspection and that's all they care about. I've been back to replace builder antennas in Baldivis that were less than two years old. The mounting bracket was plastic, the coax was thin RG59, and the antenna itself was a budget brand that couldn't pull in the weaker SBS and multichannel frequencies.

Baldivis Builder Antenna Problems

Safety Bay and Warnbro are right on the water, so marine-grade stainless is mandatory. But the wind exposure down there is next level — I always use heavy-duty mast brackets with additional guy-wire support on beachside properties. A mate of mine fixed an antenna in Safety Bay that blew off the roof in a winter storm because the original installer used standard mounts. Could've gone through someone's windscreen.

Coastal Hardware That Lasts

Port Kennedy's a mix of older homes from the late 90s and newer infill. The older homes often have degraded cabling that's been there since construction — twenty-five-year-old coax cable loses a heap of signal even if the antenna's fine. Swapping the cable and connections sometimes fixes the reception without needing a new antenna at all.

For anyone in Rockingham near the coast: ask your installer if they're using stainless steel hardware. If they can't tell you specifically, they're probably not. It's the difference between a three-year antenna and a ten-year antenna down here.
